Core Values
With reading Clark Atlanta’s “Core Values”, I learned that students should contribute to the overall progression of the university. Along with making decisions throughout the day that exemplify respect and professionalism. I began trying to find unique ways to take Clark Atlanta to new heights, just as we all should. By respecting one another and working as a collective to try to gain more and more knowledge, possibilities and opportunities are endless. Everyone needs to share the same common goal of being the best versions of themselves possible.
What’s Unique About Your University?
One reason I am so attracted to this school is because of its mission and purpose. Which basically states their main focus as an educational institution is to prepare young people for the world by teaching them how to be active learners and to think critically. Students are to engage, not just with each other but in their academics diligently as well. Another attraction that guided me throughout the semester is the fact that so many great people came from this facility. Including Rev., Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., W.E.B. Dubius, Spike Lee, and Kenya Barris. Therefore, I am destined for greatness.
Center for Undergraduate Research and Creativity
Recently, I’ve come to the realization that I want to help people through my love for research. If I were to name a talent or skill that I have, it would be my desire to obtain new information. If I have a question, I am sure to find out the answer on way or another. I intend to enter the Research Symposium in April. I owe this desire to a presentation someone from the department gave during one of my seminar classes.
Learning Styles and Strategies
There are four different types of learners. The sensory learners, visual learners, intuitive learners, and verbal learners. I consider myself to be a visual learner for a number of reasons. The primary one being I am more of a hands on kind of person. In order to effectively retain information I need to do actually do the problem. Or answer a question in my own words.
Managing Stress
When it comes to stress, I have a hard to handling it and I feel as though my reaction to it doesn’t make it any better. Now, I see that how you manage stress determines how far you succeed in college. When I completed the checklist, I answered “no” one to many times. Which told me I need to do a lot better when it comes to my mental health. For example eating healthier, exercising more, and strengthening my faith.
